Rex Carroll is a Randy Rhoads wannabe

Anonymous said... August 2, 2014 at 2:26 PM

Your comment has as much relevance as all the output of RR the last 30 years. Zip zilch nada.

    Nice try.

I can't believe they forgot Dave Mustaine!?

    Dave Beegle (4th 3state & solo)!

Sean Clancy said... August 3, 2014 at 6:23 PM

Rex Carrol asked me for a lesson. I have over 10 million views on Youtube. My name is Sean Clancy and I should be on this list!

Anonymous said... August 3, 2014 at 9:17 PM

Apples and Oranges. Do you believe Randy Rhoads was a Jimmy Page wannabe?

Anonymous said... August 3, 2014 at 9:19 PM

Missing Dave Perkins and Lynn Nichols? That's a lot of the best 80's CCM right there.

Anonymous said... August 4, 2014 at 2:52 PM

Lots of great names on the list and really hard to pick a top 10. My own opinion is that there is no other better than Phil Keaggy. He really can play anything and any style if he wants to. But again there are so many great players. Did not see many votes for Lanny Cordola who played with Ken Tamplin and Magdallan and also a band many should remember called House of Lords who were popular outside of Christian rock. John Schlitt from Petra did not play much guitar and should not be on this list. Another great guitarist who doesn't really play any rock is Dennis Agajanian.

Mylon LeFevre was not listed? He is considered one of the best guitarists of all time!

Maddisen Gentes said... August 4, 2014 at 4:44 PM

    He's on there. 4 HORSEMEN! !!

Anonymous said... August 4, 2014 at 5:15 PM

    Where is Jeff Garner?

Anonymous said... August 4, 2014 at 5:57 PM

Where is David Huff from David and Giants ?

Anonymous said... August 4, 2014 at 6:06 PM

Mylon LeFevre is a great songwriter, singer, minister and artist. He is NOT a "great guitarist". I played in his band for years. You have never heard him play a single lead guitar on a single song. Sorry.

Anonymous said... August 4, 2014 at 8:23 PM

    These are the bestest!

Anonymous said... August 4, 2014 at 9:41 PM

where is Larry Dean from Trytan?

Mike Mantha said... August 4, 2014 at 9:43 PM

    Dennis Cameron from Angelica?

Anonymous said... August 4, 2014 at 11:20 PM

Rex Carroll has about as much in common with Randy Rhoads as milk does with sand. If anything, Rex Carroll was closer to Van Halen. Either way, both are great guitarists and Rex ranks right up there with them.

Anonymous said... August 5, 2014 at 4:30 AM

Maybe you should add yourself and see how many of your 10 million views turn into votes?

Rex Carrol asking for a lesson... may be more indicative of his humility than you being a guitarist of rare and unusual stature.

You are however one of the best christian guitarist in NZ (from the 80's/90's and probably to this day - although I havent seen a lot of your work in the last 20 years)

Anonymous said... August 5, 2014 at 6:13 AM

    Chris Impelliteri?

Anonymous said... August 5, 2014 at 10:19 AM

Justin is relatively new and unknown, but he won't be for long. He is really good!

Anonymous said... August 5, 2014 at 10:23 AM

Justin Forshaw is technically the best guitarist to emerge in recent history; Check out the You Tube videos for the band "We as Human."

Anonymous said... August 5, 2014 at 5:58 PM

    You forgot Doyle Dykes!!!!!

Anonymous said... August 5, 2014 at 11:47 PM

    Where's Frank Marino?

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 6:16 AM

People that truly knew Steve Osborne know that he HATED everything about organized religion.

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 6:59 AM

    Michael Sweet definitely the best!!

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 7:05 AM

The best on this list are Oz Fox, Mike Sweet, Tony Rossi, Rex Carrol, and Bob Hartman. This is my opinion based on going to many concerts since the eighties. These guys stood out to me as having better than average talent.

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 7:08 AM

Michael Sweet and Oz Fox are equal in there talents both are excellent. A vote for either is a vote for both.

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 7:14 AM

Why in the world is Mike Phillips (Deliverance, The Sacrificed) not on this list?

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 7:26 AM

Too many on this list do not belong because 1. they do no play "Christian" Rock (The Edge, Dave Mustaine), or 2. they are not "classic" (I think 20+ years), or 3. There music style is more contemporary and not rock. Just my opinion

Chuck Tate said... August 6, 2014 at 10:10 AM

IMO, so many of these guitarist's don't even belong on a "GREATEST" list. However, you can't go wrong with Michael Sweet & Oz Fox, Rex Carroll, Phil Keaggy...and even Lincoln Brewster.

kyle morrett said... August 6, 2014 at 12:11 PM

Dave Enos ( Emerald) should be on the list!!! Many would agree He's one of the best if not the best!!

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 4:03 PM

Darrell Mansfield does not play guitar

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Hockensmith 5 votes? I had to leave Toni Rossi and Dana Key off the list....... Elimanated Key 1st ,just couldn't find one to put Rossi in the place of, and felt bad about it!!!!

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 7:16 PM

I have all the Daniel Band cds and Toni Rossi was doing solos that nobody dared to do when Christian rock started most never heard of him but he is a great classic.

Anonymous said... August 6, 2014 at 7:18 PM

    I agree

Anonymous said... August 8, 2014 at 12:50 AM

    where's Jonny Lang?

Anonymous said... August 8, 2014 at 8:11 AM

I agree with Lanny Cordola. Loved him back in the day!

Anonymous said... August 9, 2014 at 9:39 PM

    Rob Rock guitarist

Anonymous said... August 11, 2014 at 3:35 PM

Doyle is one of the best but not really a 'rock' player right

Anonymous said... August 11, 2014 at 7:47 PM

Wow people who truly knew Steve Osborne knew he was a Christian and believed in Jesus. Yes there were things he did not like about the way some churches were ran and what some people do in Christ's name . You could say that about anyone of us. I knew Steve . He was one of my best friends and experienced many thing playing Christian rock with him . Not sure why this harsh comment was made especially when he is no longer here to defend his beliefs . Sorry for such a misguided statement . Not the place for it

Anonymous said... August 11, 2014 at 10:43 PM

    Agree!

Anonymous said... August 13, 2014 at 1:20 AM

Val Allen Wood is one of the youngest, most talented shredders out there right now! The kid can play anything...

Anonymous said... August 13, 2014 at 1:21 AM

Agreed! He puts emotion into his playing first and then releases his technical side! That's how it should be.

Thank you for the kind words guys! :)

Anonymous said... August 13, 2014 at 1:26 AM

At 25!!?? Best vibrato I have ever heard dude! Your bends and control sound like you have been shredding for decades!

Anonymous said... August 13, 2014 at 1:27 AM

I personally think Matt Smith is the only talented person in that band...

Anonymous said... August 13, 2014 at 1:28 AM

Yea Matt Smith destroys Val Allen Wood at playing. I really don't understand why he stepped down and gave his playing role to a child.....

Allen Wood said... August 13, 2014 at 1:30 AM

I'm sorry I haven't met your expectations for the band...I'll try to do better. :/ God Bless!

Anonymous said... August 13, 2014 at 1:31 AM

Sounds like you haven't actually heard him play!

Christina Rose said... August 13, 2014 at 2:49 AM

^ Agreed! Matt needed to step down so he could focus on singing, this is why Val was brought into the band. Since he is younger, he brings new techniques, his own style and pure talent to each solo/riff. Val shreds, and can play anything that is thrown at him. So listen to this Child of God and his blessing to the band and the community.

I may be shamelessly self-promoting here, but Vlad Gurin is an amazing guitarist - yes, AMAZING. As some of these are on here, so should he be.

Wayne Johnson said... August 13, 2014 at 9:03 AM

Thank you for including me in this list of players. Its an honor to be among some of the greats

If we are talking Classic Christian Rock, shouldn't Studio Heiss and Glenn Kaiser of The Red Band, or Randy Thomas of The Sweet Comfort Band and The Allies be mentioned? Randy Thomas always played such tasty leads that didn't detract from the song. Heiss and Kaiser just flat out rocked...Once again we are talking Classic Christian Rock.
